About Me

I have been working as a private tutor for over ten years, during which time I have taught students of a wide range of ages and with a wide range of different needs. Alongside teaching subject content to my students, I focus on teaching them study and organisation skills and building their motivation and self-esteem.

My Education

I studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge from 2009 to 2012. This involved a mixture of Biology, Chemistry and Maths courses.

Teaching Experience

I have been teaching ever since leaving university, over ten years ago. I first did a year of private tutoring, then spent two years teaching A-level Biology in a sixth form college – during which time my teaching was rated as “Outstanding” by Ofsted. I then returned to private tutoring, which I have been doing ever since.

During this time, I have also taught Maths and Science to small groups of students on many summer schools, Saturday schools, and GCSE and A-level revision courses. Therefore, I am experienced at teaching groups of all sizes.

However, my main focus throughout my teaching career has been one-to-one tutoring. This has allowed me to develop the specific set of expertise needed when working with an individual student. Through thousands of hours of one-to-one tutoring, I have learnt to carefully assess the current knowledge and skills of a student and the barriers that are holding back their learning, and to then design and deliver a program of tutoring which is tailored to their needs.

I have taught students of a wide range of ages – from primary school students through to adult learners – and with a wide range of reasons for seeking tuition: from wanting help with a subject they are struggling with, to wanting to get ahead with their exam preparation, to wanting to catch up after a period of missed school, to wanting to explore a subject they are interested in.

Student With Complex Learning Needs

I have worked with students with a wide variety of specific needs, including:

• Students with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, etc.)
• Students with ADHD
• Autistic students
• Students with complex mental health needs

I always work with my students to find the approaches that work for them, which can vary greatly from student to student.
